Product Design: From the Idea to the Artisan's Workshop

“Thank you very much for choosing me as your teacher. It has been an honor to share this adventure with you. Now it's time to show the world the wonderful crafts you've made throughout the course. Let me show you an example of how I would like to see your process: Inspiration Visit places that inspire you and take different photos of objects, moments and colors that inspire you. Next, set up your harvest table. Print and look carefully at the images that inspired you from the place you visited.

The compositions Start cutting out what most catches your attention from the photographs, the details that seem unique to you. Play with the cutouts, arrange them in a different order and create compositions that inspire you.
The design Choose which composition you like best, reflect on what you like about each cut and how they have a new personality together. Now paste them on a sheet of paper.
The piece made real Carry out the drawing of your composition, refine the details that you consider necessary and leave the drawing ready to take your idea with the craftsman. If possible, go to the workshop you trust and bring your concept to life. Make sure you have a previous talk with the craftsman to get the result you are looking for.
In addition to your process, prepare a text in which you tell me about the new concept you created. Tell me what the story behind it is, where it came from, and what it will be used for in the future. Remember that to develop your project you have abstracted an important part of a place and transformed it into something new, that is what makes your craft unique. Please don't forget to upload your course project by clicking "Create your project", I will be looking forward to see what you have created and to see your art. I will be giving you feedback as soon as possible. While you wait, I invite you to see the projects of the rest of your colleagues. Also take advantage of the Domestika forum to exchange opinions, tricks and suggestions with them. Keep in mind that what I shared here is my creative process, but you can choose what suits your way of working. Approach the design process as it is simpler and easier for you to make unique pieces! See you soon on the forum.”

“Final project We have reached the end of the course. It has been a great experience sharing my creative process with you. I told you about many things, especially how I started to create my work method. I showed you how the regional culture inspires me to create each project. We learned how we can take information and transform it into elements for our design. We learned how to establish a mutual learning relationship with the craftsman or craftswoman. Remember the importance of building communication and trust with them. We saw the collage technique as part of my process and how it is a gr...”
