In this lesson, I'm going to show you how to break the flatness of the canvas, and create depth before you start with your drawing. It's sometimes hard to start a painting and many artists say that they feel fear and stress to have the first brushstrokes on their canvas. A trick to do so you get over this fear is to add some strokes with sprays or acrylics. That way you warm up, you gain control over your canvas, and it’s easier to start your drawing. Nikolas Antoniou is a Cypriot painter who specializes in portrait art. He first began experimenting artistically by recreating his favorite album covers in his school books. His cousin, an architecture student at the time, later introduced him to the medium of charcoal which inspired him to draw daily and consider art as a career option. Nikolas went on to study fine art at the University of Western Macedonia and, after graduating, returned to Cyprus to open a studio where he could work on his art full-time.
Nikolas’ style is inspired by the feelings and emotions behind his subjects and his work has been displayed at solo exhibitions and art fairs across the world. He has collaborated with galleries including Morren Galleries in The Netherlands and Alpha C. K Art Gallery in Cyprus as well as with companies like Absolut Vodka.
