About the final project for: Experimental Portraiture: Fusing Oil, Acrylic, and Spray Paint

Experimental portraying in oil

“Welcome to the "Final Project" section and thank you so much for taking this course with me. It has been an amazing experience for me to share with you some of my techniques and ideas about painting. I really hope that you have enjoyed it and that this course will give you the push you need to experiment more, practice more, and create something unique. I am now going to show you how to share each step of your final project with the whole community. Firstly, share your reference image and explain why you chose it.

After that, you should decide your color palette and materials, according to the feelings and emotions you want to convey. Explain your choices.
Then, after experimenting and creating textures on your canvas, share the very first step of your creative process.
The next step is to double-check the grid of your artwork and, if everything looks ok, you can start drawing. This should lead to the first draft of your portrait.
You can now start building the portrait, by adding details, colors, shadows, and so on.
Complete your artwork with the final touches and let your feelings guide you to know when to stop. Enhance your portrait to make it more interesting and unique. Share your final result!
And you are done! Remember: in this course, we haven’t only gone through techniques and rules, but we have also focused on enjoying the process and observing it. We have used the techniques as tools rather than as rules to follow. We've seen that accidents can be part of our final project and that mistakes are necessary to unlock new possibilities for our creative process. I encourage you to experiment with my ideas and techniques and find ways to challenge yourself, create your own rules and style, and try to enjoy the process more than the final result. Please, take the time to share your advice and thoughts on other people's work. Sharing and communicating our work with others always helps us to progress faster. I’ll be sure to let you know my thoughts on the forum when I can, though please remember that I’m often busy with all my ongoing projects. Also, if you feel like doing it, you can use the hashtag #NikolasAntoniouDomestika on Instagram to share your artwork with the whole world. Thank you so much for taking the time to come on this course with me and I wish you all the best in everything! Keep experimenting!”

“Final Project Dear students, we have now reached the end of our course. It has been an interesting experience sharing my techniques and ideas on creating a portrait. I hope you have enjoyed this course and it gave you the push to work more, experiment more, and create something unique. My main goal was to show you how to create paintings that create emotion and go beyond the reproduction of an image. Starting this course, I shared with you my passion of human figures and how to find ways to capture their emotions and feelings on canvas. Remember that this is the essence of the course, and I...”

Nikolas Antoniou is a Cypriot painter who specializes in portrait art. He first began experimenting artistically by recreating his favorite album covers in his school books. His cousin, an architecture student at the time, later introduced him to the medium of charcoal which inspired him to draw daily and consider art as a career option. Nikolas went on to study fine art at the University of Western Macedonia and, after graduating, returned to Cyprus to open a studio where he could work on his art full-time.

Nikolas’ style is inspired by the feelings and emotions behind his subjects and his work has been displayed at solo exhibitions and art fairs across the world. He has collaborated with galleries including Morren Galleries in The Netherlands and Alpha C. K Art Gallery in Cyprus as well as with companies like Absolut Vodka.
