About the final project for: Ceramics with Floral Imprints: Make Functional Tableware

Ceramics with Floral Imprints: Make Functional Tableware

“Well done! You have reached the end of my Domestika course. Thank you for taking part and I hope you enjoyed it. Before I say goodbye, I will revise the step-by-step process behind creating floral ceramics to support you in your final project. First, you will need to prepare your tools and materials. Use the document I shared in Unit 2 to gain a good understanding of the equipment you'll need to set up your workspace properly. Should you need to visit your local pottery supplier, first scour the forum to see if there are any recommendations. Next, practice the basic clay hand-building techniques, like coiling, pinch pot, and slab-building. Familiarize yourself with these techniques before beginning your project. Building muscle memory is essential when it comes to working with clay. Then, go outside to collect your leaf and flower cuttings. However, be aware that you must be permitted to do so; don't clear out private gardens! Once picked, press them to the slab of your clay. Form the slab into the wall of your mug by using a plaster mold.

Now, bring the different components together to assemble your mug.
Finally, bisque fire your piece before applying glaze to color your mug and bring it to life. Don’t forget to repeat this process a second time for the glaze firing. Then, customize, accessorize, care for, and package your piece.
And that's all! I can’t wait to see what you make! Share your process and final piece in the forum by clicking 'Create your project' above. Remember to explore other students' work too. Then, we can all benefit from each other and build a supportive community. I'll be there as well to answer any questions you may have about the course. See you in the forum. Bye for now!”

“Bye. Thank you for joining the course. I hope you found my technique on creating your own botanical ceramic mug helpful and informative. And I wish you all the best of luck with your own projects. Before I leave you, I just want to remind you of the tips we discussed throughout the course. And I want you to keep in mind when it comes to creating your own project. There is no such thing as perfect. We all have our own unique styles and ways of creating our artwork. Sometimes things don't work out the way that we want them to, and that's absolutely okay. Remember to practice, practice, practi...”
