About the video: Create the new border
Overview
“Now that you've cut the excess fabric to resize the sweater, it's time to give it a new shape by building a new hem and new cuffs. To do all this, you will use the basic points we saw in the first lesson. You will especially need the chain stitch. Since we are talking about re fashion, the thread you will work with will also be recovery thread. Just the thread you made from the cut of the sweater from the previous lesson. To chain the bottom and sleeves, you'll need the fine crochet hook I showed you in the materials lesson. Once the chain has been prepared, we will stop it with a seam.”
In this video lesson Gaia Segattini addresses the topic: Create the new border, which is part of the Domestika online course: Refashioning Techniques for a Sustainable Wardrobe. Learn to give old and forgotten garments a second chance through basic refashioning techniques and minimize your environmental impact.

“Creating the new border Once all the excess fabric has been removed, it's time to create a new shape by reconstructing the border, cuffs and bottom. For this step, you'll need some yarn that you recovered earlier by cleaning the chain stitches. You'll also need a small crochet hook. I usually take 2, 2.5 and 3 and then see which one I'm best with. Depending on the fineness of the sweater you'll find the right one. Take one of the retrieved threads from earlier, Choose one that is a bit long. Hold it like this and slip the crochet hook in the first chain you see attached to the side of the s...”

Gaia Segattini
A course by Gaia Segattini
Gaia Segattini is an Italian fashion designer who grew up between the hills and the sea in the region of Marche. She fell in love with fashion as a little girl and, thanks to her mother, learned to sew and knit from an early age. As a young woman, she decided to take that passion to a professional level and enrolled in the University of Urbino to study fashion design. After graduating, she worked as a consultant for different sportswear and streetwear brands and wrote for magazines like Glamour Italia until she finally started her own blog: Vendetta Uncinetta.
She moved from her blog to Instagram where she built up a significant network of contacts that eventually led her to organizing festivals centered around independent artisan crafts such as Weekendoit in Ancona and the knitting section ""Cucito su di te"" at the Abilmente fair. Her blog, coupled with these events, opened the doors to working with major companies including Enel, Ikea, BMW, and Stefanel. In 2018, she founded Gaia Segattini Knotwear, her own brand devoted to sustainable handcrafted knitwear made in Italy.
