About the final project for: Refashioning Techniques for a Sustainable Wardrobe

Refashioning Techniques for a Sustainable Wardrobe

“We have reached the end of this Domestika course. I want to thank you for following my lessons and making this journey with me. I hope you have learned all the steps to transform your wardrobe by creating unique and personalized pieces and that you will continue to practice to find your personal style. Now it's time to share your final project with the whole community! I show you how to do it, so you can see all the steps in your creative process. Start by choosing the sweater you want to transform. Take into account everything I taught you about the quality of the yarns and the composition of the garment. Show a photo of the original sweater, without any modification.

Make a sketch of the sweater on paper or in a notebook and draw any changes you want to make.
Now move on to the decorations and embroidery: inspired by the mood boards you prepared for the texture and color combinations, remember to start with something simple.
Start modifying your sweater: shorten the bottom and sleeves, getting some yarn to reconstruct the edge and hems. Then, move on to the neck which will be cut and rounded.
Lastly, dedicated to applications and embroidery. Make your sweater original and unique, making it stand out with your unmistakable style.
Share the final result!
Can't wait to admire your finished sweater. Remember to take a look at other students' projects as well: give some advice, leave your feedback and get your ideas around. Sharing is the best way to learn. I'll try to give you some advice too, but be patient if it takes me some time to do it. Also, if you like, you can share your creation on Instagram, using the hashtag #GaiaSegattiniDomestika. Thanks again for taking this journey with me. Soon!”

Fashion designer

Gaia Segattini is an Italian fashion designer who grew up between the hills and the sea in the region of Marche. She fell in love with fashion as a little girl and, thanks to her mother, learned to sew and knit from an early age. As a young woman, she decided to take that passion to a professional level and enrolled in the University of Urbino to study fashion design. After graduating, she worked as a consultant for different sportswear and streetwear brands and wrote for magazines like Glamour Italia until she finally started her own blog: Vendetta Uncinetta.

She moved from her blog to Instagram where she built up a significant network of contacts that eventually led her to organizing festivals centered around independent artisan crafts such as Weekendoit in Ancona and the knitting section ""Cucito su di te"" at the Abilmente fair. Her blog, coupled with these events, opened the doors to working with major companies including Enel, Ikea, BMW, and Stefanel. In 2018, she founded Gaia Segattini Knotwear, her own brand devoted to sustainable handcrafted knitwear made in Italy.
