“Influences In this lesson, I’ll tell you about things that influenced my artwork and sources of inspiration. I'm indebted to the naturalists of the past and I use their illustrations in my artwork. I'm particularly inspired by Maria Sibylla Merian. My father had a book of her illustrations in our home when I was growing up. I looked through these drawings as a young girl and was completely fascinated by them. They played between being beautiful and grotesque and I loved them.
