Hand-Drawn Digital Animation: Bring Illustrations to Life

“You did it! Congrats and thank you for taking this course. I hope you have enjoyed it and now you feel ready to animate a 2D illustrated style loop by combining three Adobe programs: Photoshop, After Effects and Animate. Remember that animation doesn’t have to be a one-program thing! Before saying our goodbyes I'd like to do a quick recap on the steps you have to take for working on your Final Project, which I hope is just the first of a lot more animations you'll create with what you've learned here. First, decide on what you are going to do, start research based on your keywords. Review and narrow down your research in one mood board and work out a colour palette from your mood board.

Sketch your ideas on paper, use thumbnails to outline your story. Redraw and refine your drawings with any pen and pencil. Scan the final drawings on your computer and put them in the 1:1 storyboard templates with action descriptions.
Add colours roughly to storyboards, choose the key designs in the story as style frames and finalise them in Photoshop. Don’t forget to expand the canvas to 1920*1920px for resizing and cropping. Use the finished style frames in all storyboard templates 1:1, 16:9, 9:16.
Analyse the style frames to see what part can be done in what program. Prepare Photoshop assets for the After Effects project. Start with structuring our animation and animating every asset but the transition in After Effects. After the timing is locked, you can render the blank transition section as MP4 as timing and position reference, import to Animate. Create the transition frame-by-frame animation in Animate, we can then bring the SWF files back to AE to finalise and stylish the final animation.
Lastly, render your final animation in 3 different ratios (1:1, 16:9, 9:16) and 2 different formats (MP4, MOV) in Media Encoder. Then use the video renders to create GIF formats in Photoshop. After you have all the renderings ready, post the best suitable formats on your portfolio and social media.
And that's a wrap! Upload your Final Project and check everyone’s progress in our forum. It’s always good to hear different feedback from different people, it helps you to improve your work! I am looking forward to seeing what you have done! See you later in the forum! ”

“Thank you for taking the course. I hope you enjoyed it. So now you can animate a 2D illustrated style animation look by combining three different programs Adobe Photoshop, Affleck Bets and Animate. Remember, animation doesn't have to be a one program thing. you can combine different tools and programs to achieve a specific look and style. you can disassemble it into different parts and then assemble them together again. I understand it could be very difficult to learn a new program or something very different outside your comfort zone. but for long term. You'll be benefited from a good and ...”
