About the final project for: Naturalist Tattoo: From Lines to Skin

Naturalistic tattoo: from the line to the skin

“We have reached the end of this adventure. I hope you have enjoyed the experience and that you have learned a lot to design your own tattoos. Before we say goodbye, we are going to review the key phases of the project. It would be great if you showed me a picture of each phase and added a brief explanation about what you have done in each one. Project definition Identify the characteristics of your project: size, specific body area and technical characteristics (blackwork, color or color details). I have worked on the design of an owl interacting with some wild flowers. It has a size of about 15-18 cm for the outer biceps area. I have done it mostly with black ink and I have added some spots of color as visual details. Construction of the design Make a general outline of the area to be tattooed: what are the lines of flow between the muscles and joints. Build your line of action on this scheme.

Use the line of action to build your design taking into account that they emphasize their movement as much as possible. Integrate a plant or floral element and an animal that you like using the basic shapes method. Adapt the design to consider the elements that may have less weight and thus integrate more movement integrating with follow-through.
Details Start detailing your design: remember that mesh is a great support! Then, add the shadows using pointillism, hatch or solid shading, trying to make the shadows unify the entire design. Don't forget to consider your tonal value.
Tattoo As a bonus, if you have previous tattoo experience, bring it to life! Whether it's for a client or as a flash, I'd love to see the end result.
Now share your final project with all of us by clicking on "Create your project". Remember to share both the final result of your design and the steps that have led you to it. I am looking forward to seeing your project and giving you feedback. Although I ask for your patience, I will try to access the forum as much as I can and what my professional projects allow me. Finally, I want to invite you to actively participate in the forum, not only sharing your progress, but also giving advice and trying to help the rest of the community. It is sure to be very enriching for everyone! See you on the forum! ”

“Final project Thank you for choosing this course and getting here, I hope you have learned and enjoyed the lessons. I will give you some recommendations that have helped me during my professional process as a tattoo artist. Remember to consider the visual flow for the view to flow through the design considering the body and line of action as a guide. Use your body as your own reference. See how it behaves when it is on the move or when it is at rest. Remember to experiment with animal structures. Each one has a different shape and understand and experiment with their bodies will help us to ...”

Paloma Araneda, better known as Icarus Paloma, was born in Quintana Roo, Mexico and studied illustration at the UNAM's Faculty of Art and Design. Her three greatest influences as a child were mythology, Japanese animation, and scientific illustration, which she got from her parents who are both biologists. Her work has been exhibited in Canada, Slovenia, and various cities across Mexico, as well as in editorial publications and catalogs including her finalist piece for the First Pictoline Biennial of Illustration in 2018.

In tattooing she has discovered a space for exploring the creative illustration process with that extra step of transferring it to the skin. She is inspired by the narrative aspect the designs take on through the people who wear them. After gaining experience at a large studio, she founded her own, which she currently shares with another tattoo artist.
