Meet Sun Yi, award-winning storyteller, founder of the digital agency Night Owls, and your teacher for this course. He shares with you his own hero’s journey and how he came to start his own agency. Hear about where he finds inspiration and about the people who have influenced his work.

As Sun confirms, everyone has an interesting or relatable story to tell—it’s all about how you tell it. With your story in mind, learn how to reverse engineer it by breaking it down into elements to find its purpose. Learn about different types of storytelling structures, and how each of them can be given a meaningful takeaway for its audience. With the foundation of your hero’s journey established, Sun reveals his six-part structure to give your narrative a cohesive and compelling shape.

Dive into the writing techniques that grab your audience’s attention. Get a deeper understanding of how to make a story relatable while also avoiding clichés. Sun talks about the importance of authenticity and vulnerability, and how these elements can make your narrative truly original. Learn how to find the perfect balance between humility and authority to keep your storytelling graceful.

Now that your hero’s journey is ready to be shared, explore essential storytelling techniques to take your writing to the next level. Learn all about building tension, including obstacles, adding mystery, and much more. Sun then shares with you his writing techniques to ensure quality content. Then, hear Sun’s tips on how to keep your story impactful but simple enough so that it can be easily retold by your audience.

Delve into the more technical part of the course, which involves how to adapt your story for a website. Learn why writing for a website is different from writing for social media. Explore writing attention-grabbing headlines and hear some of Sun’s do’s and don'ts for copywriting. Sun teaches you how to test for readability and how to improve your storytelling in the long run.
