About the final project for: Expressive Typography in Motion with After Effects

Expressive Typography in Motion with after Effects

“We have now reached the end of this course. Thank you so much for taking the time - I really appreciate it! Before you leave now, I would like to give you some advice on what I would like to see in your Final Project. Lay the groundwork of your animation by coming up with a witty phrase that means something to you as a designer. Once you have decided which one you would like to animate, start sketching out your phrase ideas. This way, you will be able to work out how you want your animation to both begin and end using positioning and morphing.

Now it is time to create your phrase in Illustrator. Search for colour references and watch the organisation of your file as you complete your basic layout.
Then, transfer your file into After Effects. By converting to shape layers and keyframing each letter's and word's path position you will get a smooth, morphing letterform. Don’t forget to play with both the speed graph as well as the texture overlays of your letters to give your animation a bit more character.
Finally, drop your exported MOV file into Photoshop and decide if you want to save it as a GIF or MP4 file. This usually works best if you already have your desired sharing method or design site in mind to finally reveal your animation to the world. It's your choice what to do with it, of course, but I would highly encourage you to also share your work in the Domestika forum. I will be there to watch out for what you've come up with. All I ask of you is to be a bit patient while you wait for my feedback - I promise you that I'll come back to you as soon as I can. In the meantime: Have fun experimenting!”

“Final Project Firstly, thank you for taking this course. I hope you learned a lot. You've learnt great skills and techniques that you can use for your own portfolio and to level up your own motion and kinetic typography. Don't forget to take all of this step by step. You've been practicing and learning technique, that's taken me a couple of years to master now. Take your time, run through it, and see how you can adapt and change and flow through the skills and techniques you've learned. Also remember to keep it tidy, your layers, your organization, file paths, names, all of it. I know it mi...”
