About the final project for: Poster Illustration for Feel-Good Interiors

Illustrated posters for children

“Welcome to the final unit of this course. By now you should be well-equipped to create a unique poster. Now I'd like to see your final project. Remember to reflect the following steps: Collect information from your space with the help of Worksheet 1. Find the message for your poster. As a starting point, you can complete Worksheet 2. Research visual references for your poster and condense them in a mood board. Now is a great time to define a preliminary color palette.

With the help of your mood board, sketch the composition for your poster. Remember to keep in mind the design principles we went through in Unit 2.
Sketch the lettering elements for your poster. Keep in mind how elaborated or simple you want them to be, since this will determine their visual weight on the artwork. Remember to keep in mind your lettering references in the mood board, which are a really important guide in this stage.
Sketch the Illustration for your poster, and it’s characters. To have a starting point on what things to draw, you can fill out worksheet 3. Remember to start making loose sketches and then refine until you are satisfied with the result. Put your sketches together in a final sketch using the grid paper to give alignment and order to elements. This sketch is like a map for you to know where your elements will be placed.
Scan your final sketches and set up a new document on Adobe Illustrator. Start to translate to vectors your sketch by tracing the basic shapes of your poster from background to foreground. Trace and add the characters and lettering elements to the stage made by the basic shapes. Integrate elements and add new ones to make everything come together. In this step is a great idea to add patterns, shades or textures to your illustration. Evaluate your poster with the help of the poster design checklist we went through in Unit 2. Export your artwork for printing and choose a printing service to print it. Frame or affix the poster to your space and add details like a candle, a plant or a rug.
Enjoy your brand new feel good space and your unique and valuable poster! Remember to keep practicing your new skills! Share your project by clicking on the "Create your project" button above. If you have any questions, please ask them in the forum and I'll try to answer them as soon as I can. I also encourage you to engage in discussions and provide feedback to your fellow students. Take advantage of Domestika's great community. Thank you and see you in the forum! ”

To get the most out of this course, I recommend you to follow the steps I did and tweak them whenever you feel comfortable and experiment with the subjects that it covers. Before I go, I'll leave you with some reminders. Every artist has their own way of doing things and that's amazing. My first tip is to have fun discovering what you can achieve when thinking about a meaningful design from its context.
