About the final project for: Bluework: Combine Embroidery and Cyanotype

Bluework: cyanotype and embroidery

“You reached the end, I am very happy to have shared this experience with you, because one of my objectives with this workshop is to spread the bluework, so that it reaches many creative hands and the technique does not die. I thank you for purchasing the course. The time has come to carry out your own final project, I share with you the phases of your process that I would like to see from your work of art: The fabric: Choose a clean, unsized, high-percentage cotton fabric. In addition, apply the emulsion with a brush or sponge, you can do it at night so you will have all day to let it dry while you prepare your collage, take the photo or make the drawing that you will later copy.

The image in negative: With the dry cloth and the negative image printed on a transparency, look for your contact person or the picture frame that will fulfill the same function. Position the fabric stretched out so that the negative or frame makes good contact with the supporting surface.
In the sun: Expose your work to sunlight, check that no object casts a shadow on the image. The exposure times will be variable, they will depend on the time of day and the time of year. Preferably make the copies between 11:00 and 15:00. Then, rinse the blueprint very well with water to completely remove the chemicals. If you want to darken by oxidizing the color, in the last rinse you can add a few drops of hydrogen peroxide. Let dry and iron.
The embroidery: Look for your threads, preferably use pearl, you will also need some pointed and blunt needles. Embroider on the cyanotype seeking to generate visual richness, add textures, combine stitches and encourage yourself to explore.
This is a technique where the process is almost as important as the final result, take the opportunity to take a photographic record of the steps you are taking and remember to include it within the photos that you upload to the final project, just as I have shown you. Share your final project by clicking on: Create your project . Also, remember that I will be using the hashtags #BugambiloDomestika and #BlueworkBugambilo in networks, I invite you to share your photos using it, also, so you can meet other classmates. If when you are working you have doubts, use the forum to dump them, I will go over to review it as soon as possible. The beauty of the forum in Domestika is that it allows you to meet and collaborate with creatives from very distant places, with valuable knowledge and experiences. Take advantage of it and if you can give an advice or opinion to a colleague, they will surely value it. It was very nice to share my work process with you, I hope that now with these new tools you can go out in the sun and nourish your world with a lot of blue. See you soon, I send you a big hug!”

“Final Project We reached the end of our course. Thanks for signing up and have fun experimenting with embroidery and cyanotyping. I think it's really fun and exciting to find in every piece blending cyanotype and embroidery an opportunity to experiment. Both embroidery and cyanotyping require practice. If something goes wrong, keep going. Find the step where you went wrong, jot it down, take some distance, and start over with renewed energy. This kind of practice leads us to get acquainted with the process. We have to be open to the unexpected. We can adapt on the fly to what happens, and e...”
