About the final project for: Introduction to Tattooing

Introduction to Tattooing

“Throughout this course, you’ll have learned about the vibrant world of tattooing, the rich history and culture surrounding tattoos, and the biological process which makes them permanent. Now let me go through the essential steps of the final project. First of all, after selecting all the machines and supplies you'll need for this project, you’ll need to choose a design and make it into a stencil. It’s important to choose something simple for your first attempt - most people don’t start out making realistic portraits or large back pieces! While you can use the same design as mine, I’d really encourage you to create your own unique sketch.

Next you will need to set up your work space correctly, and transfer the design onto the skin substitute you're working on. Then you can use the three techniques we practiced to tattoo your design. Now that you’ve practised your techniques and completed the final design, I want to encourage you to create designs of your own! Everyone has their own unique style, and I want yours to be a reflection of yourself, your personality and the things you love. Use your imagination and feel free to experiment. Remember, we aren’t using real skin at this stage, so it doesn’t matter if you make mistakes! If you don't think you are ready to make your own designs yet, and want a bit more practice with the machines, I’ve attached a few template designs you can use as a fun way to refine your skills. Whatever you do, upload photos and a brief explanation of the process to the forum, and share your experiences with the other students. Don’t forget that you can ask for my help and I will do my best to respond quickly. I'm really looking forward to seeing your artworks and the process involved. Most importantly, have fun, experiment, and be patient with yourself. Learning to tattoo is a long process, and it’s taken me three years to get to where I am today, and I’m still learning every day. ”
