About the final project for: Acrylic Illustration: Create a Magical Universe

Acrylic Illustration: Create a Magical Universe

“Hey! You have come this far! Without a doubt you are a hero or heroine, you have come a long way facing your fears and monsters, seeking knowledge and learning new techniques. Hopefully I have been a good teacher and you can apply all the ideas proposed to find magic. I hope the journey through art, myths, fantasy, acrylic and creation was not very hard. Anything goes to fill your head with stories and images and find your own voice. My goal with this course and project is that, on the one hand, you apply acrylic techniques and their combination in mixed media, and, on the other, that you learn to develop a work methodology that connects you with your inner world. There are already many illustrators out there, you do not need to imitate anyone ... What the world lacks is your universe, your unique vision! Magical thinking is a tool that has served artists of all time to connect with their intuition and create freely, I hope it has also served you. Thus we come to the project of this course: the tarot. I am going to review the process that I have followed during the course, I hope it will inspire you to do yours and share it on the forum: Inspiration, concept and sketch For my course project, I first investigated a major arcana, through history and reviewing the work of current artists or illustrators. Then I searched inside myself; concepts through words and drawings, using the technique of automatic or unconscious creation. Finally I made small sketches until I found a finished version of the sketch.

Development of the illustration Next, I started with the final illustration step by step, using the possibilities of acrylic, taking into account drying times, layers and overlays. I put into practice everything I showed you about acrylic. To finish the illustration I used a mixed technique, combining acrylic with colored pencils and waxes.
My 3 illustrated letters In closing, I also showed you my other two major arcana, going through exactly the same process to get to the final illustrations. Remember that it is convenient that the three illustrations have coherence in style, technique, format and narration. In the downloadable resources of Unit 5 I left you a presentation with the step by step that I have followed with each of the three letters that I have illustrated.
Like any hero or heroine journey, this is not the end, it is the beginning. If you have done the project, you can go on and on illustrating arcana until you compose your own tarot deck. It is clear that these techniques and processes can be applied to any illustration project, regardless of its theme. Now share your final project with all of us by clicking on "Create your project". Remember to share both the final result of your illustrations and the steps that have led you to them. It would be great if you showed a picture of each step and added a brief explanation about what you have done in each one. May the Force be with you! And if in addition to sharing your work in the Doméstika community, you want to show your creations with everyone, you can upload your work to the networks, tag me or share with the hashtag #AdolfoSerraDomestika. I really want to see what you have done! I want to thank you, well, giants, huge, thank you for encouraging you to be part of the course. I am always very excited to see the creations of the students. It is exciting for a teacher to see the steps that his students take. It gives us energy to continue sharing knowledge. Keep in mind that I am already a teacher in other Domestika courses, as well as an active professional in illustration. In life there is always a bit of chaos and unexpected situations, for all this I ask for your patience. I will review and comment on each of the final projects, you can also find me in the forums to ask questions and I will share new content and inspirations. Yes I want to ask you to take an active attitude in the forum. I am just a teacher, but there are many students! I encourage you to comment and value the work of other colleagues. From my experience, this way you learn much more and having other points of view besides mine is not only important, but necessary. Practice as much as you can, it seems silly, but the more you draw, the better you will draw. It's that simple! Feed your brain and educate your eyes to find beauty in everyday life and in small details. Everything helps your world take shape and appear in your notebooks. Do not despair if the first drawings are not what you expected, those lines are necessary to continue moving forward. The emotion is not in becoming this or that, but in the journey itself, on the journey! Enjoy the ups and downs of creative processes! And, remember, magic is also the illusion, the effort, that feeling of drawing and being happy, regardless of age or time. Magic is when you create and get excited, only then can you excite others. Remember it! We are sure to meet again in this adventure! A big hug! ”

“Final Project Hey! You've gotten this far. You've made a long journey till you found your own voice illustrating your own major arcana. First, I want to thank you, big time, for joining me in this journey, for using all your inspiration, creativity, and magic all the way to the final project. In this video I'll remind you the steps we've taken to illustrate our major arcanum. First, I suggested you practice with handwriting and automatic drawing to unleash your imagination, and find other images, symbols, or concepts that you can bring to your sketches, or more polished drawings. Next, we j...”

Adolfo Serra (Teruel, 1980) studied Advertising and Public Relations at the Complutense University of Madrid, but it wasn't long before he decided to follow his childhood passion for drawing by reconnecting with pencils and watercolors at the Escuela de Arte 10 in Madrid. Since then he's been no stranger to colors, papers, textures, and stories.
He loves to experiment with techniques, play with materials, and, above all, tell stories with his art. He considers himself a trailblazer of blank pages who maps uncharted territory with illustrations for children and young adults.
His illustrations have been featured at the Bologna Children's Book Fair (Italy), Biennial of Illustrations Bratislava (Slovakia), Sharjah Children's Book Fair (United Arab Emirates), Ibero-American Illustration Contest (Mexico), CJ Picture Book Awards (Korea), and the International Exhibition of Illustrations for Children in Sàrmede (Italy).
His wordless version of Little Red Riding Hood has been published in Spain, Germany, France, and Mexico, and has won numerous awards. He also won the 19th A la Orilla del Viento Award for illustrated album from the Fondo de Cultura Económica.
