About the final project for: Embroidered Portraits in Watercolor
Creating portraits embroidered with watercolors
“We have reached the end of the course! I hope you enjoyed and enjoyed every phase of the process. After all, the process is always the best part, in my opinion. It is during it that I experiment with new lines, textures, techniques, colors. That's where I make mistakes and I can improve my techniques and even learn something new. Don't be afraid to make mistakes, don't be afraid to experiment, just have fun while creating. And remember: what will bring improvement and your artistic identity is training and constancy! Before talking about the final project, I'll give you a very valuable tip: it's much easier and guaranteed to use watercolor before embroidering. If you embroider before, there are variables that can end up taking your control over the water and consequently over the paint. For example: the moment you wet the fabric to paint it, the thread can end up absorbing the water without you noticing it and when painting it it can leak beyond the expected limit. It is much more practical to correct any error in the fabric while still painting than to undo the embroidery due to some unexpected event. Now, I'm going to talk about the steps you should take to make your final project! • Choose an image for your final project. • Identify shadows and highlights in the image. • Swipe the image on the light table and outline using pen. • Start painting from the darkest part of the image. • Create the skin tone you will use in the image. • Paint the image with watercolor. • Embroider your final project by applying the stitches we saw in class. • Finish the work observing the care that we must take with the embroidery. I would like to see some of these steps in your final project! Risk
