About the final project for: Creative Patterns for Graphic Design

Creative Patterns for Graphic Design

“Here we are, we reached almost the end of our journey. If you got till this point of the course (without skipping) then chapeaux! It means you are a naturally inquiring person, which is a great quality in a designer. Now brace yourself, you are at the most decisive and exciting moment of the whole course: it's time to develop your final project. This is the moment you will be putting into practice all that you learnt, discovering how incredibly creative you can be with your patterns. Before starting your final project, remember to: • Enrich your knowledge as much as you can, by observing actively • Experiment a lot, exploring all the techniques you learnt • Keep an overall view while designing the patterns, to ensure harmony and dynamism. Let's go over the main aspects of the process. Now that you learned how to view the world with a pattern seeker mindset, look for inspiration through observing your environment. Even the smallest thing may sparkle a creative idea for your work.

Once you have gathered some visual references, define the concept of your project. My proposal for the theme is a city of your choice using an evocative, abstract pattern. At this stage, you should also have a clear idea of the product or products on which you would like to apply your pattern, since they will inform many of your choices and limitations. I inspired my project in the city of Lecce and the relationship between the local snakes and the handcrafted laces. I applied my pattern to a gift set consisting of 4 items.
When you are satisfied with the pattern you have created in Illustrator, apply it to a mockup so that you can visualize it and use it for the client presentation.
Here is the final result of my work.
Share your project with the community by clicking on the "Create your project" button, including images and brief descriptions of your process. If you can go through this project, trust me that any other pattern design project will be a piece of cake. When you're done why not create, for example, your own stationery collection. Or maybe you can design a unique gift with your pattern applied to it. You could also print on textiles to create quirky clothes. There are plenty of possibilities when it comes to design with patterns, and if you fancy some of those ideas, I've put in the additional resources a few websites which will transform your patterns into real objects, at reasonable prices. Thank you so much for attending this course, I hope that the world of patterns aroused in you as much enthusiasm as it did with me. And if you encounter any issue on the way, please share it in the forum trying to be as detailed as you can, so that I will be able to help you find the best solution. In case my answer doesn't get as quickly as you need, you can always find help in the community. And of course, it also works the other way around, if you encounter someone in difficulty, feel free to give your contribution to help. My job here is done… ”
