“How to Choose Paper and Ink In this lesson I'd like to introduce how to choose the papers and ink which you need for Sumi painting. First, I'd like to show the different types of ink sticks and papers and how they interact with each other. Here, in front of me, I have two different types of ink sticks. One is called shoenboku and the other one is called yuenboku. Shoenboku is made of soot of pine tree and it shows a bluish black with a matte finish. Yuenboku is made of the soot of grapeseed oil and camellia oil with glue and it shows brownish black with a glossy finish. Now let me demonstra...”
