Try applying it on a separate piece of paper and make a habit of checking it regularly. Then sketch the layout. When doing the Atari practice, put the example layout under your paper. Draw the main outlines with a piece of charcoal or a soft pencil. Apply the Sumi ink using the techniques you have learned so far. Finally, if you would like to add the moon or some bokashi techniques you can add more this detail as a final flourish to your shinkunshi.
