Artistic Charcoal Portraiture: Creating Atmosphere

I am only a self taught artist and I only use graphite, but after watching Sarah use and explain the advantages of charcoal I have learnt a lot and will not be afraid of it in the future, a very rewarding course

I didn't think I liked to work in charcoal but I love Sarah Stokes so I took the course anyway. Wow, charcoal is now my favourite medium! She is so inspiring and her lessons are straightforward and clear. I can't wait for her next course (I already did the watercolour birds).

Sarah is making this course very personal and interesting, by making the steps easy to follow in a gentle way.
I will recommend this to all, but you need patience and never give up, to draw like this...
- I hope one day to be an artist drawing beautiful images...

I've watched many online courses on youtube & other art lesson websites. It's really difficult to get the full essence of what is being demonstrated as they're short & often sped up. Sarah really took her time to show all aspects of drawing with charcoal from having the right tools, gridding out the image, tonal values & abstraction. I have thoroughly enjoyed this class. I'd really like to see Sarah do a class on how she forms her abstract ideas in portraiture. Thanks so much...Ludwina xxx

The course was very informative. I was afraid of the messiness of charcoal before seeing the techniques used by Sarah Stokes but now I'm inspired to try and create my own atmospheric portraits and get out of my rut of straight copying of a reference!
