About the final project for: Artistic Charcoal Portraiture: Creating Atmosphere

Artistic Charcoal Portraiture: Creating Atmosphere

“We have reached the end of the course and I hope you have enjoyed it as much as I have enjoyed doing it. I hope my charcoal drawing technique helped you create a portrait that has both realistic and abstract elements. Choosing the right image for charcoal portraits We started our final project by analyzing which photographic references make a good portrait, paying special attention to the mood and the protocol on copyright and permissions. We analyze where to obtain those photos and how to manipulate and print them for later use, using software such as Procreate.

Grid and application of the first layer of carbon Then, we print a photo and transfer it to drawing paper using the grid method, concentrating on the points of intersection first and drawing the largest shapes first.
Once checked, we have seen how to apply the charcoal. The first thing is to work on the darker tones and then move on to the mid-tones and lighter areas. You have seen how important it is to think about the following steps while shading to continue manipulating the charcoal throughout the process. Although I have taught you my golden rules for applying charcoal, you have to keep in mind that other artists, particularly those who draw from life, will probably have other methods, especially in terms of what tools they use and what shades they set first.
We have also seen more about composition and how the left and right sides of the brain look for different things when looking at a painting.
I have also shown you how we can use this knowledge to make compositional decisions that will lead the viewer to and around our artwork by adding abstract markings, areas of tonal contrast, and making sure our piece tells a story. Fixing the final piece After exploring the composition a little more, she learned how to finish her piece and fix it with spray paint: how to scan it and prepare it for social networks and how to share it with others to achieve the greatest possible impact. I want to encourage you again to explore this medium further by mixing it with other media, trying out different articles, experimenting with unusual compositions, representing other themes, and taking your own photographic references.
I look forward to seeing your final project and seeing how your initial drawing has progressed. Please note that I am completing gallery work and private commissions during the week, but I will definitely see and respond to your work, even if it takes me several days to do so. Share your discoveries and new ideas with others in the forum, as we can all help each other with the discovery of new ideas. Feel free to follow my work on Instagram or Facebook, where you will see my latest work if you wish. Here are the links: My Facebook profile My Instagram profile. Thank you again for joining me on the course and I wish you all the best. Sarah, 😊 ”

In this lesson I'll run through all the steps that will get you to your final project. I started by telling you a bit about myself and how I came to be a full-time artist. I also shared with you some of the artists that have inspired me throughout my charcoal practise. Then I presented some of the tools and equipment that you will need to create your final project. Remember that...”
