About the final project for: Calligraphy and Lettering for Custom Garments

Calligraphy and Lettering for Custom Garments

“Congratulations, you have already reached the end of the course. I hope you have learned a lot from me and I hope I have passed on to you my passion for letters. Next, I am going to review the different phases to follow to develop the final project. Remember that I have used a denim jacket, but you have countless garments and applications that you can explore and find the one that best suits your style, you will see that the world of customization is infinite! Create a mood board Creating a mood board is very useful to tackle any project. Generating folders full of inspiration is always good, since we can go to them whenever we look for some inspiration, so I encourage you to create your own mood boards by themes to have as a reference for your design. In Unit 4 I left you as an example my mood board in PInterest.

Draw and refine your sketch Develop the skeleton of your sketch with a calligraphic base to be able to face this part of the project with coherence. Try different compositions and styles, but always maintaining the basic forms and rules of writing. After establishing the foundation for your sketch, retouch and refine it using the lettering technique you have learned. As you have learned during the course, work layer by layer using the greaseproof paper to see what you have underneath at all times. Layers help us to easily retouch any sketch, in addition to that we will always have the possibility to go back, since we will keep all the changes sheet by sheet.
Select materials and transfer the sketch to your garment Choose the best material to paint your garment. Prepare the paint in case you want to use a brush and decide which are the best markers to paint on fabric. Then transfer your sketch using tracing paper in a color that contrasts well with the color of your garment.
Paint your garment Finally, and with the transfer as a guide, paint your garment. Trace the edges first, then fill in the entire inside with a thicker marker. Remember that for the color to look powerful it is necessary to apply several layers of paint.
Final result When you finish, you can now wear your garment with the pride of having created it with your own hands, congratulations!
Now share your final project with all of us by clicking on "Create your project". Remember to share both how your custom garment fit you and the steps that have led you to it. It would be great if you showed a picture of each step and added a brief explanation about what you have done in each one. So I can give you feedback. On the other hand, if in addition to the Domestika community, you want to share your creation with everyone, you can upload photos of them to Instagram with the hashtag # IvánCaíñaDomestika I remind you how important discipline is to learning calligraphy, so don't stop practicing as much as you can. Make alphabets, write words, look for pangrams and do them non-stop, only in this way will you see how your letter improves, in a short time you will be making incredible pieces! I am eternally grateful that you have decided to spend your time learning with me, I can't wait to see your progress and how your final project has turned out when you share it on the forum. Also remember to contribute with others by commenting and giving advice, as this is how we will all learn. Remember that I will always be on the other side to answer any questions and comment on your publications, if I do not do it with the speed you would like, I will surely be immersed in an endless spiral of deadlines, but as soon as I finish them you will have my full attention. See you soon on the forum! ”

“Final project Now I am going to summarize everything I have taught you. We have started by learning about basic strokes. We learned to control the tool before we got down to the letters. Then I taught you to make a complete lowercase alphabet and another complete in capital letters with some variations. Then we have continued linking letters and learning with continuous writing, putting examples of words and with a pangram, which is a very practical example to practice from now on. Once I saw this, I also showed you some variations in the stroke so that you have many more records and some c...”
