About the final project for: Portrait Illustration with Analog and Digital Techniques

Portrait Illustration with Analog and Digital Techniques

“We made it to the end! Congratulations! I am very happy you took this course and I hope I was able to teach some useful stuff. Here, I would like to make a quick recap of the things that have been done throughout the course. Before I move on with the recap, I would like to encourage you to share on the forum what your process has been, how have you gone through each one of the stages we have covered in this course. As important as the end product is, the journey itself is where you are going to learn the ins and outs of the trade, especially if you use that to create community and bring together like-minded individuals. I started talking about myself and my passion for watercolour and digital illustration. In addition, I showed you which are the artists that have inspired my love for what I do. Then, I started presenting the materials needed for making this course, and I told you how and what each of them is used for. I have shown you how I find inspiration online and get reference photos with the light and expression that I was looking for in my theme. Once we had chosen our photos, I have explained how to edit in Photoshop and then print them out to extract the maximum information to inform our drawing. After that, I taught you basic watercolour techniques: how to mix the colours and test them, making splatter marks, and how to paint with water first and then allow the paint to fill the area. I started sketching out a rough composition of the portrait with natural elements based on the references we collected before. Then, I have shown you how to trace the outline of the face for the pencil drawing using a lightbox. After that, I have created a detailed pencil drawing with a focus on including as much detail as possible to create a good likeness of the subject. Later on, I have added decorative elements, such as textures, floral motifs, and insects using tracing paper. After scanning my drawing, I have shown you how to add layers to build up the colours and detail in the portrait with Photoshop. Finally, I have shown you tips about Fine Art Printing, and creative ideas for hand-finishing the print using metal leaf, embroidery, and metallic acrylic ink. Thank you! Bye!”
