About the final project for: Logotype Design for Brand Identity

Logotype Design for Brand Identity

“We have reached the end of the course and I hope you’ve learned the process of creating a custom logotype for a potential client. And now you are ready to start your project. First, you’ll determine what brand/company/client you’d like to create a logotype for. Maybe a logotype for a new restaurant, fashion brand, or your studio name. You can try also redesigning an existing logotype you feel could be improved. Or choose a client/brand that will inspire you! As you complete your project, it’s important to remember that the process is just as important as the final result. Before saying goodbye, let’s go over the steps I recommend you follow to complete the project. Recall the principles of good logo design: a successful logo should be simple, relevant, memorable, legible, and finally versatile. Create a mood board of the different style directions you’d like to explore Then pick a single style direction to sketch and explore choosing a letter or letters to customize the logotype.

Explore with some sketches and then, it’s time to get into Illustrator. You can start with a base font you can customize or scan and upload one of your sketches to create from scratch.
If you uploaded your sketch, trace the letters you drew out using the pen tool. You can also create the letters using basic geometric shapes to form the typography. Depending on the style of the logotype, it might be a combination of both pen tools and shapes. After executing a version of the logotype you are comfortable with, step back 5 ft from your computer and look at it. How is the kerning? Does it read well? Is it unique? Do any of the letters look off? Does it read well if I step back even further? Another tip is to give yourself some time. Take a break and look at your design tomorrow with fresh eyes. At this stage, ensure your kerning and tracking is correct. Review any small details such as type alignment and ensuring that the weight of each letter is consistent throughout the logotype.
Now, that your logotype is in a good place, it’s time to create a presentation to share with the client. As you create your presentation, include as much detail about what was customized and why you customized it. Explain how these customizations communicate the brand’s essence.
Please share your process and design thinking with us as you develop your logotype.
I've had a great time in this course. I hope you enjoyed designing your logotype. Any questions or comments that you have, we will see you in the forum. It may take a few days to answer, but as soon as I have the time, I’ll be sure to get back to you. Check out your classmate’s work and provide constructive feedback. Getting feedback from others is a great way to see new perspectives of your work that you might have not thought about. CHEERS! ”
