About the final project for: Graphite Portraits with Digital Design

Graphite Portraits with Digital Design

“Thank you for taking this course and for choosing me as your teacher. I am very happy to share with you everything I know. Besides, I have enjoyed it very much and I hope you have also enjoyed it and had fun, but above all, that you have learned a lot. I invite you to do your own final project and share with us, not only the final result but also the process that led you to it. You have already seen my project, but now I would love to show you how I would like to see yours. Are you ready? I invite you to take a look. b]In search of the perfect portrait[/b]. To start this project you need to have a portrait you want to work with. So do the search that you consider pertinent until you find the right one; let the portrait itself call your attention, let it awaken in you emotions that attract you to it.

Photographic retouching. The portrait you choose may need some adjustments, so make the appropriate adjustments in Photoshop and print the image to scale so you have it handy for reference.
The modeling. Take a deep breath and exhale, the good stuff is coming, but you will have to be patient. Start tracing the portrait and start working on it. Go slowly, in layers, don't rush! Remember that going little by little will help you notice the details you need to work on. For example, you will be able to notice in which areas you should place a little more shadow and which others should have more light. If for some reason you are going to stop for a while and continue later, I recommend that you take pictures so you can remember what you were working on.
Your personal touch. Once you have your portrait ready, it's time to add your own touch, that which will distinguish you. You are going on a new quest. Take on the task of looking for elements that you would like to add to your portrait. You can draw inspiration from magazine covers, colors from artwork, space, or whatever you feel comfortable with and want to work with.
The finishing touches. Digitize your portrait and add what will be your personal touch, this is the moment to make some adjustments to the portrait itself that you consider necessary. When you have your project ready, then you can print it or save it in the format you want to share it in your networks.
Please don't forget to share your final project so I can give you feedback. Also, I invite you to take a look at the work done by the rest of your classmates. If you have any comments to make, please do so respectfully. Remember that we are all part of the same family that we are forming in this course. I am looking forward to seeing the wonders you have done with your portrait and the unique things you are going to add to it. If you have any questions during the process, remember that you can find me in the forum. It may take me a while, but rest assured I'll get back to you. See you soon! ”

Visual Artist and Designer

Patricia Escalante studied painting at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru. However, she spent 12 years of her career pursuing one of her other passions: graphic design. During that time, she worked with companies like Kerzen and Unique/Yanbal.

Now she is fully devoted to art and experiments with graphite drawing and other digital techniques. Much of her work focuses on portraits of artists and people she admires. Inspired by classic magazine graphics and black and white photography, Patricia explores the depth of portraits as an art form and depicts her figures in timeless spaces.
