“How to hold the hook and tension Now I'll talk about the different ways to hold the hook, and the tension we need to maintain when crocheting. There are two ways to hold the hook: what's known as the knife grip and the other is the pencil grip. If you've been crocheting for a while and you prefer one method, that is absolutely fine. But, if you're starting, I recommend using the pencil grip. You'll notice lots of benefits and when we use the knife grip, what we do is work with our shoulder, elbow, our whole arm and our wrist.
