About the final project for: Creative Fashion Illustration Techniques

Creative Fashion Illustration Techniques

“We have reached the end of the course. As summarized in the video, we have explored from start to finish the stages and techniques needed to create an exciting final illustration incorporating 2D and 3D elements. Thank you so much for coming along on this ride with me. I dearly hope you have enjoyed the course and learned something new to take with you on your creative journey. Hopefully, my approach to drawing and techniques will spur you to try new things and make them your own. The more you practice the more ideas you will have in terms of application. So keep practicing and make mistakes knowing that with the collage technique you can always fix things or take it further. I hope it will motivate you to actually make mistakes, which is how we grow as an artist. I am looking forward to seeing all your beautiful work in the forum. See you there and thanks for having me! Before I say goodbye, however, I would like to go over the main steps of the process. I cannot stress enough how important it is that you show all the important steps you took during your creative process. You can use it to reflect on what you did and see how your journey compared to others. You can get so much feedback from what others have done. This way you can add all this internal and external knowledge to your toolbox. So, once the relevant materials and references are collected we need to draw to key elements, such as the pose, and the face. For the pose, remember to start with the torso and then trace the legs, paying special attention to the feet/shoes. Don't leave them for last, as they help you anchor the lower body and thus the whole pose. As for the face, bear in mind that each face is unique and you might need to adjust accordingly. However, the template I showed you will get you covered.

This is the foundation of your drawing. Then add the base garment. From there, you have to add texture to it. Remember that you have different ways to go about it. They are all valid as long as you feel it is the right one for that drawing. However, it is important to render the figure and the face with paint and a colored pencil (face, hands, feet, legs, parts of the garment).
Right after the design is coming to the desired 3D, textured shape, we have to cut it and make whatever adjustments the design calls for. Have your reference image always beside you, so you can make quick comparisons and see where the design is lagging. Maybe it needs more color, more layers, or even more fine-tuning.
Play around with different types of backgrounds. Try different colors, motifs, shapes, and materials to see which one works best. If you want to, frame the figure, but mindful of choosing the right frame for the right figure and background. Don't forget as well to post your work on social media so the world knows how great of an artist you are!
I can't wait to see what you came up with! Connie.”

“Final project That brings us to the end of the course. Thank you so much for having come this far and I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did. If you follow the right steps, drawing fashion illustration with collage should be easier than it seems. First you have to pick a pose and reference for the look and style you wanna imitate. I usually collage my references on Photoshop, but you can do it manually by printing them out. Then play with the materials to create something fun and interesting. Experiment with the textures before moving onto your drawing. If you're new at this, I recommend dr...”
