About the final project for: Introduction to Frame Loom Tapestry

Introduction to Frame Loom Tapestry

“Dear student, we have reached the end of our course. I loved being able to share with you one of the things I love to do: weave! This course is actually an introduction to the world of loom tapestry. But I can assure you that with what I taught you you can already make wonderful pieces. Use everything you've learned and start experimenting: materials, design, a combination of materials, and points. What did we do during the course? After telling you my story and sharing my greatest influences with you, I showed you the various materials you can use (fibers and accessories). I told you about the various types of handlooms and suggested a simple way to get your frame loom. I explained the main concepts of the frame loom. We then entered the most practical part of the course in which I taught you: the two ways of setting up the web on the loom; the four basic tapestry stitches: brake stitch, taffeta stitch, fringes, Soumak stitch, and Pick n´pick stitch; geometric and organic shapes and the three ways of weaving around shapes. After that general practical part, you saw how I ended the plot with my favorite ending point: the Soumak point; the finishing and treatment of the loose ends that are inside out; I removed the piece from the loom and finally placed it on the support I chose for her. The time has come to start the Final Project! I chose a decorative tapestry for mine, but you can choose any other piece for your project. Until you take your piece from the loom, the process will be the same. The applicability may vary. Here are some suggestions for what you can do: carpet; pillow; purse or necklace. You just have to get a loom with the measures sufficient for the piece you want to create. Without ever forgetting that: on a large frame loom you can work on a smaller piece, but you will no longer be able to make a large piece on a small loom. For the final project, post images of your process on the forum, as well as share some of my steps below: My mood board

My draft
Some images of the work process, that is, of the evolving part
The finished project already outside the frame
One of the things that give me the most pleasure, is seeing the results so different that they come from the same explanation. Each person gives a little of themselves and, when applying their personality to what I taught, a 100% original piece comes out! I look forward to waiting for you to show me your project and I will be here to answer all your questions. I only ask for a little patience if I don't respond to your messages right away. It means I'm back from my threads, hanging from the loom, creating a piece for my clients. Don't forget to share your project with the other course participants. Also, if you wish, show us your progress through Instagram with photos and the hashtag #DianaCunhaDomestika. You will undoubtedly be a source of inspiration for them, and you will find in their projects exciting ideas that you can explore in future pieces. I often say that when I give workshops, it's not just my students who learn, I also learn a lot from them! ”

“Dear student. we've reached the final part of our course. I've loved sharing with you one of my favorite things to do. That's it. In this last class. we'll review all stages of my final project so you can bring your piece to life with more confidence and inspiration. I shared with you the questions I ask my client and guided you through my creation process of my bootboard and sketch. I also chose the fibers to use and placed them on a card. As I mentioned in the classes. i love creating directly with yarns. but remember. the planning phase is also very important. So. invest time in research...”
