Get inspired and experiment with designs that match your style with these beautiful crochet graphs
Crochet is a craft that's all about self-expression. You can create original handmade pieces that show off your personality by drawing inspiration from the world around you and translating it into a one-of-a-kind crocheted design. This is exactly what Molla Mills (@molla_mills), a renowned crochet artist and author from Finland, does for her colorful collection of designs.
If you're looking for new ways to experiment with your style, here Molla shares some of her beautiful, geometric tapestry crochet patterns to get you started.

The nature of a crocheted texture is grid-based, and in most cases, you can design your pattern on graph paper—the same paper you used during your math exam. But why graph paper? Why not sketch paper? If you have crocheted before, you’ll know that the stitches are all stacked on top of each other, forming a grid-based pattern. As such, using graph patterns is an easy way to keep a count of your stitches.
Most of Molla’s patterns can be made by creating a flat piece or in the round. Depending on their use, the dimensions can be tuned: a mobile phone cover can also be a huge wool blanket; the same applies to big rug patterns that can be shrunk into a small credit card pocket, simply by changing the yarns, hook, or the number of pattern repetition.

Using Molla's grid-based patterns, you'll be able to make geometric square, rectangular, or honeycomb designs. When designing a crochet pattern, you can use the grid base as a map for the stitches.
Although crochet is a craft where you can also go wild, skip the grid paper, and free-form, Molla’s advice is to follow a grid-based crochet design to explore the limits of the grid and see how complex a pattern you are able to create.
So, take a moment to slow down, sit, and crochet your ideas into a handmade, colorful reality.
