Download Two Lighting Schemes for Portrait Photography

Photographer Esteban Calderón shows you two ways to design lighting for portraits
When preparing a portrait it is important to enhance the aspects that most flatter a person and, in this way, make them the true protagonist of the photo.
To achieve this, lighting is a fundamental aspect of the creative process. When we work with artificial lighting we can have absolute control of this aspect.

A lighting scheme is a way of arranging the different light sources, in relation to a scene and a point of view. In other words, it is the way we design the distribution of our light points with respect to what we want to illuminate. There are a multitude of light schemes and each one produces a different effect.

Photographer Esteban Calderón (@estebancalderon) is an expert in portrait photography, and has worked with celebrities such as Lana Del Rey, Finn Wolfhard, Sean Lennon, Shirley Manson, Amandla Stenberg or Megan Fox. He is known for his ability to capture the personality of his subjects and give them drama. To achieve this, he uses certain lighting schemes that he shares here with you.
Esteban shares two diagrams and shows with examples the type of result you can achieve with them, whether for commercial or artistic photography.
