Creative professions are not a certain science. The creative process involves some factors such as inspiration, subjectivity, sudden changes in the direction of creativity and even the mood of the creative person. All this generates some uncertainty that makes us feel some insecurity about how to face a new creative challenge. And that's okay. It is quite normal.

There is another way of looking at creativity and the way we create. There are different methods to make the workflow within a creative process more effective and we can get to generate ideas more safely and enjoying the way. And that is precisely where the key lies: in the journey. As creatives we tend to focus on the "what": what I have to do. Although knowing the "what" is a very important part, so is the "how."

Alejandro Masferrer (@alejandromasferrer) is a creative process designer who has developed his own productivity patterns to achieve creative ideas efficiently. Alejandro recommends every creative person facing a new project to focus on "how are we going to get all those ideas" or "how are we going to generate new concepts" and less on "what do we have to do". Of course it is important to set a goal, to know where you want to go. But it is also very important to follow the steps that will take us from point A to point B. The steps must be tangible and visible, so that we know what we are talking about at all times and the idea becomes clear at each stage of the process.
