Digital artist Natacha Einat shares an exclusive set of brushes for creating otherworldly compositions
Photomontage is a hybrid and versatile technique that allows you to create and combine images in a unique, sometimes surreal, format.
The idealization of alternative realities started with the Dadaists in 1915, who were protesting against the horrors of World War I. Years later, the Surrealists would use this technique to bring together contrasting, shapeless images as a way to have a dialogue with our unconscious inner selves.
Digital artist Natacha Einat (@skipandwork) portrays fantastic ideas in realistic works. Her works are filled with visual metaphors that comment on the concepts of growth, transformation, and positivity.
Natacha studied visual arts in Paris and uses Photoshop to create her artwork. She works as a freelancer for various brands, advertising agencies, designers, and photographers.

The history of photomontage
Many consider that the advent of digital photography marked the end of analog photography's honesty. What these do not realize is that analog photography, although it captures reality as faithfully as possible, is not entirely reliable either.
Already during the 19th century, a few decades after the invention of photography, several examples of photomontage were discovered that showed that the construction of other realities had already germinated in the soil of analog photography. These pioneers predicted the wide variety of tools that Adobe, far in the future, would equip their computer program with.
Some of these examples include the first "fake" suicide in history; Abraham Lincoln's obsession with his image that led him to deceive a nation in order to become president; how photography influenced the construction of America’s collective imagination; or, "photographing spirits," where the dead return from beyond the grave to sit in front of a lens.
All of these examples are evidence that photography has always embraced trickery, and surely always will: after all, isn't that the most human thing in the world? Want to know more? Discover the pioneers of photoshopping (before Photoshop existed) in the following video.
