Sean Scherer

My name is Sean Scherer. I am an artist, designer, and owner of Kabinett & Kammer, a contemporary curiosity shop of antiques, natural wonders, and art.

I was born and raised in Miami, Florida but have lived in many cities since then, including Paris, Toronto, and New York City.

I have always had a passion for art and design, and objects. I bought my first antique at age 16 and have been collecting and dealing ever since.

I studied art at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and the Independent Study Program of the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York. As a result, my paintings have been shown extensively in North America and Europe.

In 2002 I moved to the Catskills area of New York State, where I opened my store, Kabinett & Kammer.

My art and design work has been featured in The New York Times, House Beautiful, Martha Stewart, The Times UK, and elsewhere. I was also an art history professor for more than 15 years at the State University of New York at Oneonta.

In 2020 Vendome Press published SEAN SCHERER'S KABINETT & KAMMER, CREATING AUTHENTIC INTERIORS. The book represents ten years' worth of work. I see the book as a celebration and a guide to collecting and showing how lively design can integrate disparate objects into beautifully layered ensembles. Each photograph is a lesson on color, texture, focal points, and room size. Though styles fluctuate and tastes are unique, design principles are immutable, and good design is good design.
