Seán Martin

I am a best-selling author of popular history. Among my books are The Knights Templar: The History & Myths of the Legendary Military Order, The Cathars: The Rise and Fall of the Great Heresy, The Gnostics: The First Christian Heretics, and Alchemy & Alchemists.

I have appeared in a number of TV programmes, including Cursed Films II: Stalker (2022) Dir: Jay Cheel (First Love Films/Shudder/AMC); The Secret Story of the Knights Templar (2020) Dir: Thibaut Martin (Picasso Films, T2MP); The Nazi Quest for the Holy Grail (2013) (Dir: Tom Barbour-Might, Nerd TV/Channel 5); The Templars’ Lost Treasure (2009) (Dir: Tim Versteegen, National Geographic); Secrets of the Cross: The Trial of the Knights Templar (2008) (Dir: David Bartlett, CTVC/ Channel 5); and The Templar Code: Crusade of Secrecy (2005) (Dir: Geoffrey Madeja, History Channel).

I have also made a number of documentary films, including The Dream in the Mirror (2021), and Tarkovsky's Andrei Rublev: A Journey (2018), both commissioned by Criterion and released by them on BluRay, DVD and streaming platforms.

I hold an MA in Creative Writing, and a PhD in filmmaking, and currently teach filmmaking on university film courses.

I am based in Edinburgh, Scotland.
