My project for course: Portrait Painting with Oil: Explore Light and Shade

Thank you Jane for putting on this course. I found your teaching to be very informative as well as encouraging. Why I did the course was to learn more about tones, values, brushstrokes, colour and I liked your portraits and style too.

To challenge myself I didn't trace the photograph but drew it roughly in and 'tweaked' as I went along. I used your suggestion of using a colour elsewhere in the painting as well as putting in some blues and greens in the skin tones. Also, I tried to be careful to get the tone correct before enthusiastically putting brush to canvas. I am very happy and amazed at the way the portrait has turned out. Thank you.
