Demi Mixon

I am a contemporary textile artist from Houston, Texas that believes art comes in many forms and can be used to engage, inspire and connect people. It is my goal to create work that acts as a vessel of imaginative positivity so that the viewer may experience a moment of escape and reflection they can carry into their daily lives.

I have been a creative person since I was a child but only began pursuing my art career full time in 2020 and I now spend my days creating a new visual vocabulary built on the manipulation of string, color, and shape.

I focus primarily on using traditional macrame techniques, as old as Third Century China, to create contemporary and unexpected wall hangings and soft sculptures that explore the depth of tactile creation. In my work the idea of connectivity between nature, cycles, and emotion are explored through tactile mediums that require care and attention.
