Cecilia Ruiz

I was born and raised in Mexico City, where I worked in the Graphic Design field for many years. In 2010, I moved to New York to pursue a career in Illustration at the School of Visual Arts and since then, I have been able to publish three picture books: The Book of Memory Gaps, The Book of Extraordinary Deaths and A Gift from Abuela.

My geometric, stamp-like style lends itself to simple, happy expressions, but I feel like my most compelling works are the ones in which melancholy hides within the bold color and shapes.

Some of my clients include Google, The New York Times and Penguin Random House. Apart form writing and illustrating books, I teach Graphic Design and Illustration at Queens College and the School of Visual arts.

I'm currently finishing my fourth picture book, called Mr. Fiorello's Head, which is related to the project I developed in my Domestika course!
