Tim Pond

Hi there! My name is Tim. I'm an author, educator and illustrator. Over the years, I've been lucky enough to explore the world through my love for drawing and watercolour painting. I've enjoyed working as an expedition artist in Alaska to sketching leaves in a tropical forest in Mexico. In my free time, I love to sketch in local woods, parks, botanical gardens and the Zoological Society of London. I also give art lessons where live animals are the life models from chickens, sheep and cows on farms, owls in museums and specimen drawing at science festivals. I thrive on teaching, which has grown into my chosen outlet for creativity, enabling others to succeed.

My freelance career started as a cartoonist for the Guardian Newspaper, and now I'm the author of several art and design education books. Drawing has always fascinated me, and I've learned from some of the best teachers in person and online. From Renaissance artists to character creators behind blockbuster films and animations, I am always ready to soak up new ideas.

The art and design books I've written include "The Field Guide to Drawing and Sketching Animals," which was ranked one of the top 20 best nature drawing books of all time by Book Authority, "Watercolour the Natural World," and my latest book, "Drawing the Natural World" in which I share many of my practical techniques. My work has been featured in "Artists and Illustrators Magazine" and reviewed by BBC Wildlife Magazine. I am on the judging panel for the Royal Society of Biology Nancy Rothwell Art Award.

In my writing and teaching, I aim to convey vital artistic and anatomical knowledge in an accessible, engaging and fun way. Anyone can learn to draw and paint, young or old, and besides being a fun, social activity is a valuable life skill for all to help think, invent, explain and make connections.
