I'd call myself an artist working in many mediums and disciplines, which include acting and performance, music, drawing and painting. All of which I carry out at varying levels of ability, though I would definitely state I'm a master of none. I'm 60 years of age and have managed to cobble through a career employing all the above activities.
I did a one year foundation course at Leeds College of Art when I was 18. Essentially I wanted to learn how to paint but my experience there put me off drawing and painting for the following 30 years. I reignited my interest some thirty years later after attending a local life drawing class, and reminding myself that I can draw, and that I actually love doing it. Since then I have steadily improved, and have gone on to teach drawing skills to beginners. I now also carry out commissioned portraits, something which took off for me through lockdown, mainly out of necessity as all my other work came to an abrupt halt. Throughout that time I completed around 200 commissioned portraits (including a lot of dogs) from photos sent to me.
I'm now at a point where I want to do more painting for myself. I don't feel I have created a style of my own yet, and am eager to learn new techniques of brushwork and colour, and to try to be bolder in my approach.
