I grew up in Stuttgart in the South of Germany. As I’d always loved to draw and to work with letters and colors, I studied graphic design in Bremen. After my diploma (in which handlettering played a major role by the way) I worked in Bremen and since 2001 in Berlin as an art director and illustrator. I published regularly in the taz, a German newspaper, and various magazines, and realized free projects with hand screen printing together with other illustrators. Based on this work, I became increasingly involved with and excited by calligraphy and continued to learn and study with national and international teachers.
Today I am one of the few calligraphers in Germany who specializes in classic pointed pen calligraphy. I write and design for clients such diverse as Brigitte magazine, Paperblanks, Lacoste, C&A, Salon Magazine, UNESCO or Ted Baker London (and a number of design agencies, private clients and happy couples).
I’be been teaching since 2016 numerous calligraphy workshops for beginners and advanced students. In 2019 I was invited as a speaker at the Berlin Letters Festival, where I also teached a workshop about calligraphic flourishing. I contributed to a TV report for Arte TV on the subject of "Valuable Handwriting" and also in 2019 my book ”Spitzfederkalligrafie" – a comprehensive 240 pages guide to pointed pen calligraphy from Copperplate to Modern Calligraphy – was published by the publishing house Hermann Schmidt. I’m very happy that in 2020 it got also translated to Japanese and published in Japan by Bug News Network!
