Sharie Kelley

I love art. I took a few Bob Ross art classes as well as some classes at the community college.
I play several musical instruments just for me--never in front of another person. That's my shy zone.
I love to salsa dance but that is on hold given the pandemic.
I write stories and poetry.
I have two small parrots which I like to take shopping--only one bird at a time gets to go. I have an enormous yard which I mow with a push mower and I weed whack too. This year I started a straw bale garden.
I live in a rural area where there are no street lights or a town census.
I work nights as a suicide crisis worker--in person, not over the phone. When I am on duty, I work from home. I cover the whole county and go out to hospital emergency rooms and intensive care units when the hospitals call or when law enforcement calls. I also go to police stations, and wherever else law enforcement requests my presence. Last week the police asked me to go with them to a field to assess someone. That was a first. One reason I like the work is because I never know what's next. I also respond when the mental health crisis is homicidal ideation generated by a mental health condition rather than criminal intention. And, I respond when someone is experiencing a psychotic state. I try to get them a psychiatric hospitalization if their psychosis renders them a danger to themselves or another person.
I am basically a pretty happy person which is one reason why I can do the work I do. No one alters me.
