My project for course: Artistic Charcoal Portraiture: Creating Atmosphere

This is my project for Sarah Stoke‘s Charcoal Potraiture Course. Not everything turned out exactly right but I never would have thought that I‘d be able to draw something like this in the first place. It is my first ever approach to a human face. The most difficult for me was to build up tone in the face as it lightens again every time you blend it in. So this took quite a while.
I chose to add to the flower crown and move away from the reference picture to emphasise it‘s meaning. The woman in the picture literally says everything I cannot say with words and it was an important and meaningful task for me personally to portray her. Thank you Sarah, for teaching me everything I needed to know to draw this!
