I think somewhere along the way I lost the flow!

Hi! It's a very fun illustration, so nice that you created it as a birthday card!
Your color selection is great, the b&w sketch is an awesome base - here you can already see how expressive the animals are, which is a huge plus!
The composition is well done too, it's dynamic but also with interesting cut-divisions which make it interesting to look at and explore. I think you did great! Something that might be worth considering in the future is a closer integration of themes represented in the piece, meaning the background you created is very coherent, but the main character, the cake and the champagne tell a separate story, that goes well with the birthday card idea, but maybe feels a bit detached from a nature-themed background. As an exercise, you could try to work on the background of this illustration separately, and do the same with the foreground and see how the scene and atmosphere changes:)
