This is one of the sequences of pages from my sketch book.
I covered up two very bad pigeons with my abstract shapes, and linked in birds. These pigeons were a little better. Link the abstract shapes in ‘rhubarb cake’ palette from earlier in book.Abstract shapes turned into rocks, with a monochrome pike (there are fish earlier in the book too)Fish swimming in from previous page and a possibly hungry heron!Playful rabbits - pondering whether to add more of a link to the previous page than the verticals. Playful rabbit in a different landscape.
I especially enjoyed the "falling off a cliff" page. - the arrangement and size of your abstract shapes are truly evocative. I find it difficult to achieve the intensity of colour exhibited in your work - what is the trick?
Hi @marisekr
Thank you for you comment. Glad you liked the cliffs - it certainly rescued that page!
I didn’t do anything in particular to get that intensity of colour. I used different values of the colours, including some really creamy paint spatters or dotting it in the same spot with a brush several times (damp into damp) which would give a darker value than the underlying washes. Cling film also gives great texture of darker and lighter patterns. Hope that helps.
@lynn_cox_1 thanks for the tip - now that you tell me what you did, I remember that I did the same about 10 days ago on a sketch of dolphins. I shall try to remember to remember!!!
Wow, Lynn! I'm so impressed! You've really taken the exercises from this course and run with them in your own way, exploring story-telling, colour, and playing with different themes. All these pages work so well and I'd really love to flick through this sketchbook in real life to see how the imagery flows from page to page. I also really appreciated your honesty about resolving a 'bad' image by creating a new one on top - just to show that nothing is ever irreparable. Really well done for this final project - I'm delighted, and I hope you are too! ;-)
