I retired a year ago and finally, after a lifetime of caring for others, and taking any job I could to keep my family clothed, housed, and fed, I am looking forward to exploring my creative abilities.
I have dabbled in music, pottery, and fiber arts off and on over the years, and I love science, and I love to garden.
I find I am down to functional art. Things that have both a useful purpose and bring beauty to one's surroundings. Recent I have been attracted to studying light, the shadows and highlights, and most of all, reflected light.
I recently started a project of sanding and re-painting my kitchen cabinets. I included a picture of them as my background. I realized I am in need of a back splash behind the sink and on the walls below the cabinets. I looked at home improvement stores, and didn't like the highly commercialized products, and custom tiles were way too expensive.
Being an avid do-it-yourselfer, I was excited to come across this class. I am hoping to create tiles for my home that will reflect my unique style and personality.
I am fond of natural objects found in nature, and am influenced by the colors of earth and sky, plants, rocks, animals. I also made my first ever trip to Europe in 2019. I spent a week on the island of Malta, and the rich colors and the architecture of the buildings and the Mediterranean Sea.
