Jael Umerah-Makelemi

Hi, my name is Jael Umerah-Makelemi and I’m an illustrator, art director and founder of Nubiart. After completing my art & design foundation course at The University of Creative Arts in 2017, I began my career as a graphic designer and later transitioned into illustration.

Nubiart is an illustration studio that focuses on celebrating Black women, highlighting mental health and promoting self care through art. I create representational art for Black women by using them as my muse and capturing their unique styles through colour, patterns and fashion.
