Artists Who Broke the Rules of Traditional Art
A selection of creators who challenged academic norms, transformed visual languages and changed the history of art forever. Many of the works that today occupy museums, book covers and indisputable visual references were, at the time, considered strange, uncomfortable, imperfect or directly unacceptable. What we now recognize as genius, in its original context generated rejection, mockery or scandal. The history of art advances precisely like this: when someone dares to question what is considered correct, beautiful, technical, important or worthy of being represented. This article goes through creators who decided to ignore the rules of their time, and explains what specific rule they challenged, why their gesture was relevant and what anyone who is dedicated to creating today can learn from them.
