Mariana Duarte

Hi there! I'm Mariana Duarte, a filmmaker, editor, and a PhD candidate in Film Practice at Edinburgh College of Art, University of Edinburgh. My work explores new imaginaries of borders and displacement narratives in contemporary cinema. I hold a degree in History from Rio de Janeiro State University and my MA in film from Kino Eyes European Film Masters. I directed "Newcomers" (2013), which premiered at the Rio de Janeiro International Short Film Festival. With over a decade of experience in film and television, my editing work has been broadcast on RTBF, Globo TV, and Discovery Channel and screened at international film festivals. My latest film, "Headland" (2024), was commissioned by the Scottish Documentary Institute and premiered at the Edinburgh Film Festival.
I am a Berlinale Talents alumna and a BAFTA Connect Member.
