I am a graphic designer from the UK with a career that spans four decades, and have worked with partner Kasper de Graaf, the former Editor of New Sounds New Styles magazine, since 1981.
Working with Kasper, I am Creative Director of the design consultancy Images&Co, with offices in London and Manchester, and a Founder and Artistic Director of the annual Design Manchester festival.
I have had a career-long dedication to design education, and since 2012 have been a member of the Awards Committee for The Sir Misha Black Awards, the only awards anywhere in the world to recognise excellence in design education.
My approach to design has always been collaborative, multi-disciplinary and user-focused. While still at Manchester School of Art in 1977 I founded the graphic design group Assorted iMaGes, working primarily in the music industry with bands such as Buzzcocks, Duran Duran and Simple Minds, and later in 1994 set up the digital agency, AMX, one of the first in Shoreditch, London.
Working at the interface of digital, virtual and real world experience, in a variety of digital and analogue media, I have played a leading role in numerous design projects, both local and international, for artists, musicians, businesses large and small, community groups and for the public sector.
I am proud to have been made the first Royal Designer for Industry (RDI) in the field of New Media in 2000, and in 2020 was awarded an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours for ‘services to design’.
