Laura Jane Hamilton

I'm Laura Jane from small-town Canada. I live quietly with my husband Damon.
I'm taking the Embroidery: Clothing Repair course primarily because I'm interested in extending the life of the clothes in our house, while also enhancing them. I'm attracted to the aesthetic of having a variety of added textures through visible mending. I'm also looking forward to dabbling in another area of fibre art. I dabble already in crochet and needle felting, but my thread skills are as basic as can be. My background is in drawing, but I love textiles. It's the same love I have for abstract paintings and fancy paper. The play of textures, shapes, patterns, and colours is so pleasing. I'm trained in classical animation but I no longer work in the industry. I've been at home for many years now and my interests are hobbies rather than for any career purposes.
My husband will be following along somewhat, as he has some favourite garments he'd like to save, and he's also very interested in continuing to use the items we have rather than throwing them away and getting new ones (that wouldn't be as beloved either!). We met in film school and he will also enjoy the creative process. I look forward to seeing his jeans when they're done--they're so full of holes now that the end result will surely be spectacular one way or another. For myself, I have plenty of clothes that have small holes or separated seams, but nothing that approaches a real project like those jeans. I'm not sure what I will use for the course yet.
